White Plains HS Helps Disadvantaged Women
FC Co-President Revital Aloni is helping women to be treated with dignity and respect by organizing a clothing and accessory drive in New York to benefit the Dress for Success not-for-profit organization.
Audrey Hepburn once said, “As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, the other for helping others.” My Fashion Club at White Plains High School in New York decided to combine two interests of ours—fashion and helping others—by organizing a Dress for Success clothing and accessory drive.
Dress for Success is a non-profit organization that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support, and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
The organization truly embodies what makes fashion so powerful; fashion is an outlet of visual communication and by dressing the part, women can have the confidence to succeed in work and in life.
My Fashion Club has had a lot of fun organizing the drive, decorating drop-off boxes to be placed around the school, and educating others about the organization. The donations we have received include business suits, handbags, and fashionable scarves.
It may have taken some time to contact Dress for Success and to plan and advertise the drive, but it was well worth it. I started FIDM Fashion Club at my high school because I wanted to share my interest in fashion with others who have the same passion! We hope to continue to help Dress for Success and their wonderful cause in the future!
